SUV Tyres Vs Truck Tyres
From the tread pattern, weight and design to the size, performance and price, everything differs from one tyre type to another. SUV and Truck tyres have a lot of differences, both are designed solely to fulfil their own different purpose.
Truck tyres are most intense, weighty, and expensive. They have a taller sidewall perfect for the vehicle and are rated to carry heavy loads than SUV tyres. Other than this, a lot of truck tyres can be bought in SUV tyre sizes because there is a blurry difference in their tyre sizes.
Commonly, some SUVs use a truck size tyre and some trucks use an SUV tyre size.
The preeminent difference between the two types is their function. SUV tyres have a long-lasting life and it gives a quiet and comfortable ride while truck tyres are marketed majorly for their traction, puncture resistance and strength.
Light Truck Tyres Vs Passenger Tyres
The prime difference between the light truck tyres and passenger tyres is that LT tyres have the ability to carry heavier loads than passenger tyres. If I talk about durability, light truck tyres are more durable since they are made of a very thick rubber compound as compared to passenger tyres which offer thinner side walls making them less durable.
LT tyres are pricier and are not easily available while on the other hand, passenger tyres are cheaper than LT tyres and easy to find. Passenger tyres also provide a nice, quiet and smoother ride while LT tyres are a lot noisier and uncomfortable.
For towing purposes, LT tyres work excellent.
SUVs, for different risk factors, can never be driven with LT tyres while Light trucks can make the use of both, their own tyres as well as SUV tyres.
When Should I Change My Truck Tyres?
Tread Depth
Your tyre indicates in many ways when they are wearing out. Every tyre consists of rubber blocks that start to come closer to each other and flushes with the surface of the tyre. Once it happens, the tyre is officially ineligible to be used on the road.
Uneven Wear
Uneven wear can be caused by incorrect alignment or under/over-inflated tyres. You need to check the whole contact surface to check for the uneven wearing of your tyres. Inspect the out edges of your tyres too. For all vehicles, it is recommended to swap your tyres from front to back after every few hours if going on a long-distance journey.
Old Age
Everything gets old and senile, so tyre. The same pair of tyres shouldn’t be used for years. Replace a tyre which has been used for more than 5 years. Even if your tyres seem to be fine and you might not notice a bad performance, they still need replacement. It is risky to travel with such a tyre since it can wear out anytime if you’ve been using it for straight 5 years.
Another thing to notice here is that even if the tyre has travelled lesser km, it will still die in like 5 years since the rubber loses its suppleness with time through the drying out of moisture.
This point applied to all tyres, be it in use or spare. Also know that tyres wear out quickly in hot climates.
Replace Full Set
It is recommended to replace all tyres at the same time, including the spare tyre. If changed at the same time, all will wear at the same time and you won’t need to notice separately which tyre needs to get changed.
A lot of times, if tyres changed separately, you might experience difficulty in finding the same set of tyres which can then result in interfering with the overall vehicle balance and road grip.
